Why DJI Mavic 3 Cine is our choice
A professional production drone for demanding projects
Professional aerial production and equipment selection strategy
In the dynamic world of professional aerial production, drone-based digital photography, and complex post-production, choosing the right equipment is absolutely critical. Every project has its specifics and requires gear that will not limit the pilot. Whether we deliver assignments in the centres of major cities such as Prague, Brno, Bratislava, in smaller towns such as Říčany, Beroun, Kamenice, or across the wider regions of Central Bohemia, Moravia, and all of Slovakia, we always rely on equipment that is proven, legally compliant, and maximally reliable in real-world operation. In our kit, DJI Mavic 3 Cine therefore plays a key role, even though the market in 2026 offers newer models, such as Mavic 4 Pro. Our choice is not built on marketing, but on real efficiency for a professional production drone.
Legislative advantages in practice: the C1 category as a key to success
In today’s strictly regulated environment, the drone’s weight is absolutely fundamental. Mavic 3 Cine weighs less than 900 grams (exactly 898 g), which—after the necessary certification—places it in the C1 category under ÚCL regulations. For us and our clients in areas such as Ostrava, Prague-West, or Prague-East, this is a major advantage.
A lighter drone in the C1 category means significantly less administrative burden, the ability to obtain required permissions faster, and above all greater flexibility when working in densely populated locations. By contrast, Mavic 4 Pro falls into the C2 category, which in practice means more complex authorisation processes and stricter operating conditions regarding separation distances from uninvolved people. For commercial projects where time, mobility, and the ability to react immediately to location changes matter—such as across the Central Bohemian Region or South Moravia—this legislative freedom is absolutely key. Even though our team holds all the required A1/A3 and A2 licences, operating a drone under 900 grams allows us to deliver professional production shots with minimal administrative overhead.
Technical analysis: real-world limitations of Mavic 4 Pro in the field
From a technical perspective, both aircraft deliver high performance, but professional practice reveals the limits of newer models. Mavic 4 Pro may come with an innovative 360° gimbal, but in routine commercial operation this feature does not bring a decisive advantage. On the contrary, a point that professionals are highly sensitive to appears: a narrower native field of view of the main camera.
While Mavic 3 Cine offers a naturally wide image that suits composition in tight spaces, interior video, and dynamic urban fly-throughs, Mavic 4 Pro has a narrower angle. This forces the pilot to keep a greater distance from the subject, which in narrow streets in Beroun, Bratislava, or in industrial halls in Moravia is often technically impossible. To achieve a similar width of view, Mavic 4 Pro requires an external wide-angle lens (an add-on). This, however, brings a number of complications:
- Workflow and calibration: A professional production drone must be ready to fly immediately. Mavic 4 Pro with the add-on lens fitted often fails the initial gimbal calibration and reports an error, which requires fitting the optics only after power-on and unnecessarily slows down the work.
- Compatibility with ND filters: Using the add-on lens practically rules out fitting standard ND filters. Without them, the pilot is limited in bright conditions (summer, snow, high contrast) and cannot maintain the ideal relationship between shutter speed and frame rate, which degrades the final visual style.
- Protection and maintenance: The external lens protects only the main front element, while the other sensors remain unprotected in the dusty environment of industrial inspections.
Post-production and Apple ProRes: a standard without compromise
The quality of the source footage is the alpha and omega of professional production for us. Mavic 3 Cine natively supports Apple ProRes, which is a true standard in advertising and film. ProRes provides an extremely high data rate and 10-bit colour depth, giving us tremendous freedom for colour grading and dynamic range adjustments.
In demanding projects that we deliver from Prague to Slovakia, clients require image cleanliness without compression artefacts. The fact that Mavic 4 Pro does not offer this post-production flexibility in many scenarios is a decisive factor for us. Mavic 3 Cine enables us to deliver technically precise content—whether it is commercials, real estate videos, or detailed technical documentation.
Long-term sustainability and operating economics
From the perspective of long-term efficiency and sustainable production workflow, Mavic 3 Cine remains the most sensible investment. The combination of low weight, legislative freedom, a wider camera angle, and ProRes support creates an ideal foundation for a broad range of projects. A stable and predictable workflow—without needing to solve complications with external optics—saves us time directly on set.
In practice, this means that when filming in Prague, Říčany, Brno, or Bratislava, we work efficiently and without unnecessary technical constraints. Mavic 3 Cine allows us to focus on the creation itself—composition, light, and movement—instead of fighting administration or technical compromises. That is why this professional production drone remains our preferred choice for clients across the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
